Pole dancing and Pink Saturday

Image
I am going to publish this a day early since I will be on the road early tomorrow and not near an internet connection.

Here I am in front of the Sacramento Pole Dance Studio.  The running joke on how Mr. VZ and I met is that  I was competing in the Over-40 pole dance competition (NOT!).
These are more my speed .... and oh so PINK, fits right in with ~

Seattle World's Fair 1962, Part Deux

Seattle World's Fair 1962, Part Deu.  Here is the link to my first set of images regarding the Seattle World's Fair 50-year-retrospective-photos-from-1962

Funny I should run into this exact doll this month for sale at the thrift shop.  I have the same one, packed away safely in my cherished keepsakes.

My brother, my mom and me on the bench at the Fair.

Interesting that in these images the majority of the ladies are wearing skirts or dresses and flats.

My father makes a rare appearance in the below picture, he is the one with the white jacket, wearing glasses and carrying a camera ~ just strollin' on by daddio.

Three months of summer blog challenges, two personal photography challenges and a writing challenge have certainly kept me out of trouble.  Back to the books, I am taking two online classes this fall semester, one management and one sociology.

There are a few specialized posts I've got coming up, the first is one for International Talk Like a Pirate Day on S…

First year Blogiversary, Day 30 of Photograph A Day (Current Project), Time Travel Thursday and Thursdays Are Your Days

Image
Today is my first year blogiversary!  woohoo, yay, cheers.  Here I kept thinking I started my blog in October.  Swilly wabbit.  A holla out to all of my followers - so glad you've joined me along for this ride.  I've been blog hippity-hopping all month long so I could meet my personal goal of 100 followers (I'm almost there!)
Now that I am back in the business of 35mm slide scanning, I have a backlog of images to scan and post.  This is one of the favorites of my "rescued" slide series.  Roller-skating girl from what I believe to be the Jackson, Michigan area around the 1960s.  Do you remember those strap-on skates?

Here is my current project (photograph a day topic) - Mr. Ted E. Bear, one of those fabric sew-em-togethers.  I bought Ted and the little nautical iron-on at the thrift shop earlier in the month.  I figured I'd give him the Tami flair (that would mean sparkles, spangles, fluffles and the like).  Who knows, maybe he will be my first Etsy offerin…

Day 29 of Photograph A Day (Hat) and Your Whims Wednesday

Image
Granted this picture was taken some years ago of me wearing a chicken hat from The Village Hat Shop in Old Sacramento, to satisfy the photography challenge topic.

Lurvs me hats ...

Day 28 of Photograph A Day (Pattern) and Tuesday Time Out blog hop

Image
While I have never claimed to be a seamstress, I do attempt sewing projects from time to time.  For some odd reason, I picked up this pattern.  It is a simple, classic look and while the dress seems a tad long, I think it could be easily altered to update the style.

One blogger I think is well worth a mention, esp. in the sewing realm, is Sew Misunderstood.  Psycho Sue is a plus-sized beauty.  I so adore her choices of prints and patterns.

Since we are on the subject of patterns - here are a couple of images from the 1960s.

Day 27 of Photograph A Day (Signage) and Mop It Up Mondays blog hop

Image
Photograph A Day topic - signage.  There is no mistaking what Swingle is selling ~ The Carnivore's Toy Store, located in Jackson, California.  Their claim to fame is a specialization in marinated meats.

Right up the road from Swingles is Amador Hospice Thrift Shop, a place where costume jewelry can be had for a song.  This necklace with purple, blue, pink and orange faceted beads was $4.50.

Red geraniums and a fairy garden

Image
RED GERANIUMS
LIFE did not bring me silken gowns, Nor jewels for my hair, Nor signs of gabled foreign towns In distant countries fair, But I can glimpse, beyond my pane, a green and friendly hill, And red geraniums aflame upon my window sill.
The brambled cares of everyday, The tiny humdrum things, May bind my feet when they would stray, But still my heart has wings While red geraniums are bloomed against my window glass, And low above my green-sweet hill the gypsy wind-clouds pass.
And if my dreamings ne'er come true, The brightest and the best, But leave me lone my journey through, I'll set my heart at rest, And thank God for home-sweet things, a green and friendly hill, And red geraniums aflame upon my window sill.

The second half of my weekend's thrift shop finds ~

The pink and lavender outfit (50 cents) is a future Muffy VanderBear costume.  The two "rescued" stuffed animals, I just could not resist - they were in such excellent shape. …

My vase inventory was depleted so I was able to buy this lot of goodies for $5 from Interfaith's Great Finds in Sutter Creek, California, the three glass vases, pink poodle, California Bed & Breakfast Cookbook (2004), four midnight blue placements and the small unicorn/rainbow pin.

Day 24 of Photograph A Day (Something Yellow), Friday's Frock, Aloha Friday Hop, Show Off Friday and Fridays Unfolded

Image
Something yellow - Friday's topic and AVON's Peter Patches pin pal fragrance glace (circa 1975).

Friday's frock consists of Talbot's silk blouse and silk flower-print skirt (both TSFs), and Cole Haan sandals that I've had for awhile.  My cat Tig making an appearance.

My outfit fits right in with these Friday blog hops ~
