Excess. Day 7 of WWFC's writing challenge.
I am loathe to write in excess. Economy of words and motion - a tenent I subscribe to. "Brevity is the soul of wit." Polonius
In my thrift shop wanderings, I do wonder where does all this STUFF come from? Americans have been buying and consuming, ad nauseum. Do you think this recession/depression will change the mindset of the majority? Do you think more people are making do with less things?
What about that show "Hoarders" on the A&E network? If you haven't seen it, well, it is like watching a train wreck. You just can't look away. It is the true embodiment of excess. Mr. VZ can't even watch it, gives him the heebie jeebies. Part of the horror of it all is that people who appear on the show reveal their abject living conditions. *shudders*
On to things of beauty, these images were snapped in the outskits of Ione, California, in Amador County.
Out on the country you will inevitably find old, non-working farm equipment and vehicles. Excess? Yes. When you inquire if the owner will sell, even to scrap, the answer is "No!" I am loving this old fire truck, that would be a kick barreling down the freeway in that one.
Are you guilty of excess in some area of your life? Any hoarders out there?

Tami, I have some excesses in my life. I guess we all do. But that show "Hoarders" makes me look like a Carmelite Nun.
ReplyDeleteLinda? A Carmelite Nun? Go on.
DeleteMy mode has been 'simplify my life' ~ and am getting rid of excess ~ Stuff! ~ don't need it ~ so am working on it ~ Love your photos ~ great fire engine ~ (grandfather was a Fire Chief) ~thanks, (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteMy uncle would go bananas for that firetruck - he restores them as a hobby.
ReplyDeleteI think we all have excess in our lives. It's hoping we can make do without when the time is needed!

My latest excess is golf. I picked it up about a year and-a-half ago and I just can't get enough. Love it.
ReplyDeleteOn the hoarder side, I have a sizeable LP/CD collection. But that's not a bad thing. Is it?
oh definitely, not quite a hoarder, i do let go of stuff eventually!
ReplyDeleteOh I would not sell my Firetruck if it was as cool as that one :) B
ReplyDeleteOh wow... you and I have very similar tastes! And you know what, I also have always wondered why people go on that show. Maybe because they know it will be cleaned out for free!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a hoarder, but my hubby is on the verge of one. Must have been his poor upbringing. But I love him in spite of it. :)
