Monstrous Monday and Day 29 of the 30 days of photographs (The City)

There is nothing scarier than a monster from a traveling fair ...

AUTUMN

Magnificent autumn!  He comes not like a pilgrim, clad in russet weeds; not like a hermit, clad in gray; but like a warrior with the stain of blood on his brazen mail. -- His crimson scarf rent; his scarlet banner dripping with gore; his step like a flail on the threshing floor.

Longfellow

A fair is a city unto itself and to satisfy the photo challenge topic of "The City," I have included other images captured at the Puyallup Fair in Western Washington from last month.

  2. Ooh! Ghost pirates! I love carnivals, and they are like small cities -- places filled with all the many and wonderful varieties of people, from the sketchy carnies to the young men trying to win giant stuffed animals for their admiring young women. Or, in about 4-10 percent of the cases, depending on who's doing the counting, for other young men.

Interesting interpretation of today's prompt, Tami. :)

  3. Do you know how pirates travel from city to city? On an ARRR-plane.

  5. I've never heard of this particular monster before, but it does sound creepy. I'll be on the lookout. Nice monster pick.

  6. This is most curious, for some reason I feel like having cotton candy now.

  7. Is that first photo something painted on a trailer or van? That's an amazing piece of artwork.

  8. There's a certain magic which goes with traveling carnivals. Of course, the haunted house wagon is a must.
Really enjoyed Longfellow's poem. I'm going to write it down ;)

  9. I am reminded of the movie "Something Wicked This Way Comes".
Loved that film, but I liked the book more.

Thanks so much for joining my bloghop, I really appreciate it.

  10. Carnivals do seem to have a bit of a sinister air, don't they? Something Wicked This Way Comes was an awesome book.

The Autumn poem by Longfellow, awesome!

    Thanks for sharing.

  14. Interesting entry. I agree that there is an element of scariness connected to fairs and carnivals.

  15. It's true that carnivals and fairs are a bit scary. Reading about the ones that used to travel around makes them all the more frightening. Great photo choice and poem!

    Thanks for visiting my monster!
