Happy 4th of July

These patriotic cuties are from my pattern collection. Undated Advance sewing pattern priced at 25 cents from a bygone era.

I just keep adding to the vegetable garden. Giving a go at growing leeks.

Wish I had more to report on the thrifting front but I have moved to a less-affluent area. Main items I find now at thrift are athleisure clothing, scented candles, and books for the grandbaby.

It is interesting that items trend in certain areas. As an example, when I worked in downtown Sacramento, I was a frequent visitor of a Goodwill boutique. There, over the years, I found my tiki mug collection of 10. I have never found a tiki mug at thrift in the outlying areas.

There were also more sewing patterns to find at thrift the farther out in the country you ventured. Nearer to the city = less sewing patterns.

I don't pick up all the original artwork that I see at thrift. This painting, while exquisitely framed original price $450, thrift shop price $15, the composition seemed off.

Just remembered a box of collectible patriotic stuff was left in the move. Unless I missed it when items went from storage to onsite shed. Patriotic cloth doll started the new collection - 25 cents at thrift.

I buy fresh flowers each week. This week's bunch are particularly fragrant!

Wishing everyone an enjoyable holiday weekend.🎇🎆

Happy 4th of July

Celebrating the 4th of July here in the U.S. A true vacation for me from both jobs.

No fishing yet as the ocean has been too rough for our little red boat.

Zipper chilling in the trailer.

A barn sale had some cute stuff but priced too high.

Big Barbie greeted visitors to the Elephant Thrift Shop and Museum. Dedicated to fighting the slaughter of elephants and rhinos for their tusks and horns.

Ending the post with some lovely flowers showing their stuff on this holiday.

Happy 4th of July holiday

The red and white crocheted blanket and USA patriotic wall hanging were both purchased last month at a 1/2 off thrift sale. It was almost criminal that I spent less than $5 for the two. I image the cost of just the yarn alone on that well crafted crocheted piece was over $30.

I bought the red and white blanket to sell, but now I just can't part with it.

I sent a quilt to be completed at the long-armer as a birthday present to myself. My next project is a baby quilt. It should be a quick put-together of bordering the blocks, and sewing everything together.

Recent listings on eBay were a group of needlekits. Those finds come in batches, so when I buy them, I just scoop them up. Even better if they are Christmas ones. I don't really examine them until I prepare them for listing.

This kit I am especially fond of because I made the original when it came out in 1990s, and is displayed on the mantel each holiday season.

It will be Christmas in July for me because people buy holiday items all year round. Two of my listed kits sold next day.

This display was at my fav hospice thrift - I would snag that flag quilt had I been in town.

We are back in Bragg - Fort Bragg, California. I hope to have more whale/fish pics in an upcoming post.

Happy Fourth of July!

Much to my delight, one of my fav thrift shops was open and offering a 50% off day. Part of my tub of fun purchased for a total of $14, included a Hawaiian print dress that I will wear to work tomorrow. Restarting my Friday's Frock for the summer.

Sally Stand-In is modeling my squee of a find. I am also shamelessly showing off my 1/2 off plant I found last week.

Garnered nine more records, four yards of fabric, one packet of remnants and a large packet of quilt pieces.

I am experiencing project overrun again. I think it is time to start up my Etsy shop and list some of these fabrics and projects.

Gardening update:

Deer deterrent ratcheted up to Level 3. In a desperate attempt to keep my grape vines and actually have grapes to eat, I have enclosed the vines in chicken wire cages.

Yep, in the second image that is a close up of deer nibblins. The doe returned that afternoon and I saw her wistfully looking through the garden gate at the now-unattainable vines. I am going to continue the chicken wire cages until they meet at the arch.

The Piggybank Savings blog hop is on the 6th, so I will see you then!

Doing my patriotic best

I am hanging with the mamacita up in the Pacific Northwest during this holiday. I decided it was little Ginny's time to shine for this post. She was a thrift shop find last month.

A fabric find from E Street Thrift was blocks, border and more for $1. I have been shying away from buying preassembled blocks because they just don't "feel right" to me - like I should be making them myself. But this packet 'o quilt goodness will turn into an amazing quilt top.

Other sewing-related finds included this $2 basket chock full of Aunt Martha's embroidery transfers, I'll highlight the contents in an upcoming post.

I am also participating as tamaschen in the Instagram 14 Day of Summer mini summer photo challenge hosted by Our Pretty Little Girls & Wife Mommy Me, #14DaysofSummer17. Today's prompt is "America."

I am circling back around to finish up my patriotic lap quilt that I started in January of this year, on this post.

I so love my country and am proud to be an American!
