Yard Sale Yabadabadoo

It was a glorious weekend of thrifting. Cotton candy Peeps (my fav) feature the second-hand fabric found at hospice thrift. It is kind of a scratchy cotton, so I am sending it back to the Great Thrift Shop Beyond.

The best find was at a local yard sale. When I saw fabric, I asked if they had any sewing patterns. First one box came out, then another, then another. I told them I will buy the lot, all that they had.

Forty dollars (+ $2 tip) for the lot included 80 uncut sewing patterns, 35 cut patterns (3 of which I kept), a partially completed Christmas cross-stitch kit, fabric, and two boxes of purple globe lights.

These patterns clearly came from another thrift shop pattern collector. There were the telltale signs of secondhand price tags.

I got so excited about this group of patterns and the neat ones in the group, I forgot to organize them for listing. Usually it is alpha starting with Butterick and ending with Vogue, then organized by pattern number within their grouping. That way after I finish the sewing pattern listing session, I can file them away as they are grouped in the stockroom. This session I organized for the stockroom after I had them all listed.

Patterns of the Day starts with chickens! 🐔 All of the following patterns came from the yard sale.

Next up are vintage dollies - I'm guessing 1980s?

Bonnie Bundles median sold price on eBay is $29.99. This pattern sold would nearly cover my Yabadabadoo Yard Sale Find! 💜

Ending the post with a really cute pattern - first time I have ever seen this one.

There are a bunch more to share, some Christmas, for another time. Galloping off into the sunset ...

Until next time,

K letter day

Kicking it at Yard Sales!  Stuffed Scooby Doo was actually at an estate sale. At the end of a very long drive, there was this amazing rock formation view.

This was the one letter that stumped me, so rather than fight it, I bent it for this A to Z Challenge.

Estate sales are great, but yard sales are even better. Last month, my little city held a community-wide yard sale. I visited about 5 of them and came away with a kid's catcher's mitt in very good condition, a Halloween sweater XXXL size, a needlekit, 5 books, and a $1 picture wood-framed with glass (with 2 images shown above). Yard sale lady thought the landscape image might be Laguna Beach, California.

Yard sales are more of less getting rid of stuff and getting back a few bucks. Sometimes clothes are overpriced, yard sale person thinking clothes new with tag retain their retail value. K-not! I like to visit yard sales on the last day during the last hours. This month, I gained two skirts, a dress, tank top, and a animal print sweater - $1 per item. I do get a kick out of new clothes to me.

A bit of kid's clothing and back to work

More of the mini daffodils were cut and made their way home with me, this batch being the white/yellow ones. I have been picking up puzzles and this retro motel sign one was 99 cents at thrift and unopened.

Yard sales are where I pick up clothing for sale or exchange. Here is the best of the $7 bag of goodness. Red feedsack print trimmed in white eyelet 12 month sized and a red plaid sunbonnet hat. The dress was missing button that I replaced prior to listing.

Having dealt in sewing patterns for a couple of years now, I find that ones that have to do with home decor, New Look and See & Sew brands are non-starters. I was going to pull the retro cut ones but they continue to sell, slow but sure.

I have greatly winnowed down my fabric stash. I keep only the "cutest" fabric, and get rid of the uglies. All of the odd holiday-themed (i.e., Valentines, St. Patrick's day) is wrapped around eBay orders. This retro typewriter print came in my latest $2 bag of thrift fabric.

Baby Cabbage Patch doll has joined the clan, found at the same hospice thrift a few days apart from her Cabbage Patch sister. This baby version from 1982 set me back $1.99.

I will keep them both for now, until I go through one of my great decluttering episodes.

This was my final day of reprieve from my full-time job. I hope it will not be too hard going back to full days after 3 months of being off work. There are so many places that I miss in Sacramento, I hope I can go in office now and then for a change of scenery.
