Lucky Streak

Do you believe that luck runs in streaks?  I sure do.  For me, it started right around Christmas, they were small wins, but wins nonetheless.  In early December, at a professional association Christmas luncheon, I won a $50 gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond.  The next weekend, I won potted red tulips in full bloom, pictured here.  A week later, I won a $25 gift card to Macy's, being the first to answer a question in a newsletter.  A few days later, I received a call that I had won a basket through a thrift shop raffle shown here.  Yesterday, I received a $15 gift certificate to River City Brew at the K Street Mall in Sacramento - won through a business card drawing. That same day, I got an email from Office Team notifying me of a raffle win from their Christmas party, a darling ceramic snowman was filled with small shortbread cookies.  He has now joined my decoration family.

As an aside, I always wonder when I lose followers - does it mean I've posted something offensive?  Have they found new blogs to love?

  2. Well, something's in your favor for sure! My husband has always had the best luck when he registers for prizes, he seems to always win and sometimes the winnings have been great! Happy weekend and thanks for stopping by!

    1. That is one reasons why I soooo enjoy reading your blog - your local jargon. I don't think I have any "Californianisms" but we'll see.

      This Pimms you speak of, not sure what it is - must investigate.

  6. You are a winner my friend.

    Now let me share my "followers" story with you. When I started blogging I was on Blogger and I had the GFC widget up. Every time I'd get a new follower, my heart would feel joy and every time I lost followers, I'd wonder what I had done. Sometimes people leave because they are following too many, sometimes they stop blogging and delete their accounts, sometimes Google messes up and deletes people, and sometimes people just realize that you are not their cup of tea. Anyway, I ended up switching to WordPress and I brought my GFC gadget with me. At a certain point, Google decided that they would no longer support GFC on non-Blogger blogs. My heart dropped, would I loose my tens of hundreds of followers (I had over a thousand at the time)? I fought it, and wrote to Google (no response)and the day came when the widget no longer worked on my WP blog. And you know what happened? Nothing. It actually ended up being great for me because the #'s were no longer in my face all the time. Now I have no idea how many people are "following" me on a general basis or more importantly (for my ego) how many people are leavng me. The truth is that even with GFC, you don't know how many people are following you because some people will follow you via their readers, etc.

    The point of my long-winded story is, don't sweat it. People leave and more people will ALWAYS come. You keep writing honestly about what interests you and don't second-guess yourself or your writing. This is your space and we just get to share it with you because you let us. Happy New Year!

    1. You have the distinction of being my first substantive comment - and I love it!

      Gotta agree with you on Reader - I follow many more blogs through that than I do officially follow on GFC.

      Google analytics are fun to analyze too. At least I pretend to know what I am analyzing ...

  7. I too believe in luck, though I am never lucky! You sure were during the season of Christmas. {How could YOU write something offensive? I like your post, it is true I have not been a follower for a year yet, but I have not seen anything that would offend.}

    1. I was kinda worried about my hunting post - there might be those that are anti-gun, anti-hunting, anti-eating (oops, did I say that?)
