Triangle Christmas Tree Project

Countdown to Christmas Day 12 is about the Triangle Christmas Tree project.

The lead-off image is from the magazine Country Sampler's Christmas (2015).

"You can make a similar tree from old house trim or painted boards glued together and attached in the back with mending plates."

At hospice thrift, I bought a headboard and baseboard for $3.99.

Supplies on hand included the painters tape, paintbrush, and paints.

Paint is one craft item you should not hold on to for years. All but the metallic paint in the pack of 6 had dried up. I brought out my tubes of acrylic paint (also many years old) but still usable.

The boards are painted and ready to be cut into triangle shapes. I would like to say this project cost me next to nothing. It did for me but the Mr. went out and bought a coping saw to make the cuts.

With the pieces cut, time to assemble into the wooden tree. This is where the project does a complete fail. We tried the coping saw, then we tried a small chainsaw to cut the pieces. All that was accomplished was me getting chewed out by the Mr. for buying that headboard/footboard. The pieces are now on the scrap pile. Loved how the painting turned out and I have used up all of my acrylic paints.

Even though I had a project fail, spotted at a Christmas bazaar was a similar concept. The weight of the wood meant the painted trees rested on the floor.

Once I get more acrylic paints in my stash, I might attempt this project again.
